He had to postpone his dream and attend the New York military academy to please his elders.

When he was 18, however, Troy Donahue secured a job as a messenger in his father’s film and entertainment company. Troy married Valerie Allen, another actress, a few years later; however, they divorced last year.

In November 1969, he married executive secretary Alma Sharpe a third time since he felt that she could solely care for him.

The couple got married in 1964 but divorced just one year later.

Troy Donahue’s second marriage was to actress Valerie Allen in 1966. Then, in the 1980s, after a long voyage through dinner theater, which he describes as “a sea of blue hair,” and a heart attack, rediscovery, by underground filmmaker John Waters.

Waters cast Hunter opposite drag queen Divine in 1981’s Polyester.
